Understanding Your Speed Test Results
iTest is a free online internet speed test tool allows you to check your network performance against our specific server location. A reliable internet connection relies on several different factors, not just raw download speed. Here is what each metric means:
- Download Speed: Measured in Megabits per second (Mbps). Download Speed dictates how quickly data is pulled from the server to your internet device, so higher is better. Important for watching videos, browsing, and downloading files.
- Upload Speed: Measured in Mbps. Upload Speed is how quickly you can send data from your device to the server. Important for video calls, streaming, gaming, and backing up files to the cloud.
- Ping (Latency): Measured in milliseconds (ms). Ping or Latency is the reaction time of your connection—how quickly you get a response after sending out a request. As a result lower is better; a fast ping means a more responsive connection.
- Jitter: Measured in milliseconds (ms). Jitter is the variation in ping over time. A high jitter value means your ping is fluctuating unpredictably, which can cause lag or buffering during real-time tasks like voice calls or gaming, so lower is better.
